Once your little bundle of joy arrives, it’s only natural to tell the whole world about the new baby in your life! However, so many websites offer baby announcements that it’s a challenge to sift through them all to find the best options. In this blog, we explore the top 5 websites for baby announcements and compare them based on designs, customization options, and price. Let’s jump right in!
PurpleTrail, which has both an online store and a storefront just outside Seattle, offers custom invitations and announcements, including beautiful custom baby announcements. Since PurpleTrail also offers other custom products, it’s also a great one-stop-shop for personalized baby journals and onesies you might be on the hunt for. PurpleTrail sets itself apart from the pack with its quick delivery time, easy-to-use design tool, and unique die-cut invitation shapes.
Designs & Variety
PurpleTrail has hundreds of photo baby announcement designs for boys and girls as well as special categories for twins, adoptions, and sibling baby announcements. PurpleTrail’s designs are contemporary, featuring modern typography, fun backgrounds, and whimsical themes, like giraffes, owls, elephants, and sailboats. This makes it easy to match your baby announcements to your nursery. We were thrilled to see beautiful gold and silver foil stamped designs available to add polish and flair to your baby announcements.
With PurpleTrail, you can get a baby announcement in the shape of a onesie, baby bottle, heart, or circle, or choose from a more standard trim, like square edges, rounded edges, ticket shapes, or bracket shapes. You can also order magnet baby announcements. PurpleTrail also offers multi-page baby announcement formats for people who want something different than a standard flat card. Multi-page cards in tri-fold, quad-fold, and booklet formats let you share tons of full-size baby photos. Since the whole point of sending a card is to share the new baby’s photos with family and friends, these are great options.
PurpleTrail is set up to allow full customization of any baby announcement on the website from top to bottom. You can add as many text boxes and photos as you want to the front or back of the card without restrictions. This differs greatly from many other sites, which typically restrict all your color and layout options. If you are a creative person who likes to add your own special touch to photo greetings, PurpleTrail is your best bet.
PurpleTrail is also unique in the way it lets you add custom embellishments to your baby announcements. In the design center, all you need to do is click on “embellishments” to search all of PurpleTrail for the perfect decoration for your baby announcement. So if you like a certain element of one announcement, but prefer the layout of another, PurpleTrail makes it easy to mix and match elements to create exactly what you want.
PurpleTrail’s pricing falls in line with its competitors, and the website offers discounted pricing for large-quantity orders. Pricing for baby announcements starts at $1.50 each for a 50-card order, but the pricing for the same design goes down to $1.38 each for a 100-card order. Coupon codes can drive prices down further for larger orders.
2.) Invite Shop
Invite Shop is the ultimate online source for inexpensive baby announcements, priding itself on providing fully customizable baby announcements at an affordable price. Invite Shop caters to the budget-conscious customer with its unique pricing structure that helps you get just as good of a deal for small quantity orders as large quantity orders.
Designs & Variety
Invite Shop surprised us with the quality of the baby announcements you can get for the price. The nearly 120 designs we found on the website were beautiful, creative, and contemporary, reflecting the skill of Invite Shop’s talented team of in-house designers. On-trend designs include rustic woodgrain backgrounds, marquis lettering, ombre color tones, and geometric prints. We found plenty of designs for boys, girls, gender-neutral, adoptions, twins, and sibling announcements to suit every type of family.
Invite Shop offered a wide variety of clever announcement shapes (called trims), including whimsical onesies, baby bottles, hearts, and circles, as well as more traditional shapes that still add flair to your baby announcement, like rounded, ticket, antique, and bracket trim. Invite Shop also offers multi-page announcements, including tri-fold, quad-fold, and booklet options for showcasing multiple, full-size photos of the new baby.
When you choose a design from Invite Shop and hit the “Personalize” button, you are taken to an easy-to-use design center where you can customize every aspect of your baby announcement. In the design center, you can freely make changes to the trim, background, and text as well as add photos, embellishments, and shapes for a one-of-a-kind baby announcement. Sophisticated image tools allow you to resize, add effects or change the opacity of your baby’s photo(s), depending on the look you want.
Invite Shop is tough to beat on price when comparing apples to apples. Baby announcements start at $0.69 cents each and the price per card remains consistent whether you purchase 25 cards or 200 cards.
3.) Tiny Prints
Tiny Prints is a personalized card and stationery company that was bought by Shutterfly about five years ago. Since Tiny Prints started out in the birth announcement business, baby announcements are one of its most prominent categories. Tiny Prints sets itself apart by its exclusive designer collections, a personal shopper service if you can’t make up your mind, and matching stationery accessories.
Designs & Variety
Tiny Prints offers nearly 500 designs in its baby announcement category, including options for boys, girls, twins, adoptions, and sibling announcements. Gold and silver foil stamping and magnet announcements are offered in their own collections outside their standard signature card printing. The designs we found were modern and compelling, with whimsical prints, like bowties, clouds, and stars.
Tiny Prints offers a variety of baby announcement trims, including hearts and ornament shapes, as well as rounded, ticket, bracket, and scalloped shapes. Formats include some multi-page announcement options, including folded, tri-fold, and postcard. Booklet formats, however, were notably absent.
The ability to customize a baby announcement through Tiny Prints depends on the design you choose. The cheapest collection, known as the Studio Basics Collection, offers the fewest customization options. With this collection, you are typically only able to change the font type, size, and color through the website, and can’t change the paper type or make even the simplest changes to layout, such as adding a photo or text to the back panel.
However, Tiny Print’s more expensive designer collections do allow a greater level of customization, including higher quality cardstock, different trims, background options, and layout options. Photo baby announcement designs allow you to add filtering effects to photos, such as sepia and black and white. However, you can’t add as many photos and text boxes as you want, wherever you want, like you can with PurpleTrail or Invite Shop. You also can’t import embellishments from other designs to create your own mix-and-match design. Your choice of background colors, if available, is typically limited to 2-4 different colors, rather than having the entire color spectrum at your fingertips for every design. Overall, Tiny Prints’ design templates are less flexible than PurpleTrail or Invite Shop.
Tiny Prints pricing is competitive, with bulk discounts available for high quantity orders. However, you don’t get the same customization value at the lower price points. For example, baby announcement pricing starts at $1.19 each for a 50-card order and $0.99 each for a 100-card order. But this pricing is found in Tiny Prints’ Studio Basics Collection, which does not allow for many template changes. PurpleTrail and Invite Shop both offer the same comprehensive ability to heavily customize at any price point on their respective websites. That said, Tiny Prints routinely offers coupon codes that can drive your final price down significantly.
Shutterfly is best known for its custom photo books, but also sells custom stationery, invitations, and announcements, including baby announcements. While it doesn’t have as many designs or the number of premium paper options as Tiny Prints, it does offer cheap printing on photo paper for the budget conscious buyer.
Designs & Variety
Shutterfly’s design quality is on par with its competitors, and designs are available for boys, girls, gender neutral, twins, adoptions, and sibling announcements. Shutterfly breaks down its themes to help you find specific types of announcements, such as holiday, religious, and first Christmas baby announcements. Modern design elements included chalkboard backgrounds, confetti designs, and watercolor touches. Shutterfly also offers gold and silver foiled designs.
Shutterfly was the only website that offered three-quarter folded card formats. Shutterfly formats included standard flat cards as well as folded, tri-fold, and magnet formats. Shutterfly did not, however, offer booklet formats like PurpleTrail and Invite Shop. Trim options with Shutterfly were also more limited than PurpleTrail, Invite Shop, and Tiny Prints. They included square, rounded, ticket, scalloped, and bracket trim, but none of the whimsical hearts and circles we saw elsewhere.
With Shutterfly, the cheapest options offered the least amount of customization, particularly the designs printed on photo paper. Designs on cardstock typically allow a choice of trim as well as plenty of layout and background options for the back panel of the card. However, like Tiny Prints, the design on the front panel of the card is more rigid than the back. You can’t import embellishments from other designs or swap out backgrounds on the front panel like you can with PurpleTrail and Invite Shop.
Shutterfly differs from Tiny Prints in the way it makes custom color palettes available for certain designs. Where Tiny Prints typically only offers 2 to 4 color palettes for certain designs, Shutterfly makes it possible for you to pick from 40 different colors for certain aspects of the card. However, color choice is still more limited with Shutterfly than with PurpleTrail or Invite Shop, both of which provide a complete color wheel, providing hundreds of custom color options for backgrounds.
Shutterfly offers bulk discounts for large quantity orders. Pricing differs greatly depending on what kind of paper you choose. The cheapest photo paper designs start at $1.09 for a 50-card order and $0.99 for a 100-card order. However, photo paper is thinner and flimsier than cardstock. For an apples-to-apples comparison with its competitors, you would need to price out an order on basic cardstock, which start at $2.09 for a 50-card order and $1.89 for a 100-card order. Promo codes can drive your final price down further.
Snapfish is a photo sharing and photo printing website that sells personalized photo cards and photo gifts. Snapfish offers baby announcements on photo paper as well as traditional cardstock.
Designs & Variety
Snapfish has nearly 170 photo baby announcement designs for boys and girls as well as special categories for twins and adoptions. We did not see a convenient category for sibling announcements, however, which are highly in demand these days. Snapfish’s designs are contemporary, pairing modern typography with fun backgrounds, like honeycomb patterns, Moroccan tile print, and chalkboard designs. Unlike the other options on this list, Snapfish did not appear to offer foil stamped designs.
Snapfish only offers standard flat cards. We did not see any alternative or multi-page formats, such as tri-fold, quad-fold, or booklets, which are offered by its competitors. Snapfish also only appears to offer two standard trims, square and rounded, for designs on cardstock. Overall, we found fewer ways to make your baby announcements special with Snapfish compared to the others on this list.
Snapfish offers basic customization options. Instead of allowing you to pick any design and have the ability to rearrange it to your liking, you must search for a design template that fits your taste. In design view, you can change the font type, color, and alignment, and plug in photos in the areas the template indicates. You can’t add text boxes and photos wherever you want like you can with PurpleTrail and Invite Shop.
Most designs offer 2 to 6 color palette options instead of allowing you to choose any color you want for any design. You’ll need to filter by color with Snapfish to find designs in the color you want. While the front panel of Snapfish’s baby announcements feature a rigid design, the back panel provides various background and layout options for designs printed on cardstock. However, you can’t swap out backgrounds on the front panel or import embellishments like you can with PurpleTrail or Invite Shop.
Snapfish offers bulk discounts for high quantity orders. Their best pricing is for baby announcements printed on photo paper. A 40- to 60-card order for the cheapest photo paper design we could find was $0.80 each, while a 100-card order was $0.73 each. However, photo paper is thinner and flimsier than cardstock. For a true apples-to-apples comparison to its competitors, you would need to compare options on traditional cardstock. On the cheapest cardstock available, Snapfish baby announcements are $1.60 each for a 40- to 60-card order and $1.45 each for a 100-card order. Coupon codes can further reduce your final price.
As you can see, PurpleTrail, Invite Shop, Tiny Prints, Shutterfly, and Snapfish all have plenty of modern baby announcement designs available. PurpleTrail and Invite Shop are the clear leaders when it comes to customization options. Invite Shop offers the best pricing for baby announcements printed on cardstock, with Tiny Prints coming in second cheapest. However, Tiny Prints’ cheapest options do not offer the same level of customization as PurpleTrail and Invite Shop, which we feel reduces the overall value to the customer.
As for options you can’t get anywhere else, PurpleTrail and Invite Shop are the only two on this list that offer booklet invitations. They are also the only two to offer whimsical trims in the shape of onesies, baby bottles, circles, and pumpkins. Shutterfly is the only option on this list to offer three-quarter folded invitations. We hope this comparison post helps you identify the features and options of different websites that you will find most helpful when choosing your baby announcements.
